Engineering Objectives
-
The tractor-trailer model must be an accurate replica of a full-size tractor-trailer. This is necessary so that the results of the tests will correlate with everyday use of authentic tractor-trailer trucks.
-
The wind tunnel must be able to recreate the flow conditions a full-size tractor trailer would be subjected to in normal conditions. This will require that the flow in the tunnel is turbulent and will ensure that the test results will be applicable to full-size trucks under normal conditions.
-
The devices for making measurements must be able to accurately measure variables that can be used to calculate the drag forces acting on the tractor-trailer model. They must also be able to measure the conditions in the wind tunnel to confirm that objective two is met.
