Speech to my class

Composting

I am collecting apple cores and bananas and carrots for a composting project IN OUR CLASS. I would like to start collecting on the Jan.22/08. (Today) I am doing it to enter it on a virtual science fair (a virtual science fair is when you make a web site with the scientific method) and to cut down on the garbage in the class. I have different bins for project. I am collecting now so the worms have time to compost. My Question is which will compost faster? (Apple cores and bananas and carrots)

Eco league makes bins with us!

Introducing Eco league Participants

I think you all know that I have been doing a worm science fair project and you have all wanted to put the biodegradable substances in yourselves. There are two reasons that you can’t.  Number 1 for my science fair project I have to measure the amounts of compost that go into the bins. Number two is that if you over feed them the worms will die and your bins will produce a bad smell. Now for all the extra compost that you have that I don’t need can go in the compost bins that were going to make with a group called Eco League. When I went on a field trip to Mount Royal collage I got my idea for my science Fair project. Now we are going to make two compost bins for our class and two others. The two other classes are    Mr.Hammerich’s class and Mrs. Toth’s class.

Some facts I have learned about composting are:

-      Apple cores, Banana peels, carrots, some tea bags, coffee grounds etc can go in the bins.

-      Everything that is biodegradable can be feed to the worms.

-      NO citrus (Orange peels, limes or lemons)

-       No animal parts (meat scraps, animal droppings etc) can not go in.

When the soil is a nice dark brown you can put it on your garden because it’s very healthy for your plants. Now were very lucky to have Eco league here today to make compost bins with us.
