pH---pH is the symbol for the logarithm of the reciprocal of hydrogen ion concentration in gram atoms per liter, used to express the acidity or alkalinity of a solution on a scale of 0 to 14, where less than 7 represents acidity, 7 neutrality, and more than 7 alkalinity.


Coleoptiles--- A protective sheath enclosing the shoot tip and embryonic leaves of grasses. 


Cotyledon--- A leaf of the embryo of a seed plant, which upon germination either remains in the seed or emerges, enlarges, and becomes green. Also called seed leaf.


Radical--- The usually underground portion of a plant that lacks buds, leaves, or nodes and serves as support, draws minerals and water from the surrounding soil, and sometimes stores food.


Germination--- The process whereby seeds or spores sprout and begin to grow. 


Seed--- The fertilized, matured ovule of a flowering plant, containing an embryo or rudimentary plant.


Dicot--- A flowering plant with two embryonic seed leaves or cotyledons that usually appear at germination.

Monocot--- A monocotyledonous flowering plant; the stem grows by deposits on its inside.
