METHOD
- I carefully twisted the saftey pin so that it was able to balance without falling. I then pushed a peanut gently into the pin.
- After that, I removed the two ends of the large metal can with the can opener.
- I used a hammer and a nail to make holes at the bottom of the large can. These are air holes that will make the can act like a chimney and will contain the heat energy focusing it on the smaller can.
- I removed the top end of the small can.
- I made two holes in the top of the small can and slid the BBQ skewer through these holes.
- I poured 125ml of water into the small can and let it sit for an hour. This allowed the water to be at room temperature. I put the thermometer into the water and recorded the temperature.
- I placed the saftey pin on a non-flammable surface. I lit the peanut with a lighter.
- As soon as the peanut caught fire, I immediately put the large can around the nut. I balanced the skewer holding the small can on top of the big can.
- I allowed the nut to burn for several minutes until it burned out.
- I stirred the water and recorded the temperature.
