Conclusion

Farming in Canada is a very important part of our economy. But large amounts of emissions from larger vehicles are released into the air when used. These emissions contribute to poor, health, smog, acid rain and global warming which is a topic concerning many major world countries.

They have been trying to determine ways to reduce these emissions. One way to reduce emissions is by using alternative energy sources that are more sustainable so the reliance on fossil fuels is nonexistent. What has been determined is that oilseeds grown in Saskatchewan can be used to create fuel to run farm implements nearly eliminating the need for fossil fuels.

Information from a Saskatchewan farmer shows only 6.5% of his entire 542 acres of land would be needed to produce enough fuel to run the complete farm. Though this is much better than spending $5675.99 for 7242.1 litres of diesel, economically it is better to sell the canola as a whole for $6301.93.

Environmentally since the gap is very small it is better to use the canola oil since canola oil is more environmentally friendly. With this information, it gives farmers a choice. A choice whether to sell the canola crop or to use it as fuel. When diesel prices rise, the farmer can use canola oil and when canola prices rise, the farmer can just sell the canola. By doing this, less toxic greenhouse gas emissions will be released into the air.
