Building a seismograph
|
Procedure 1) I built a seismograph using
instructions from a web site included in the bibliography. 2) To test it, I used the following
magnitude tests and measured how far off the center the pole moved with a
ruler. I took the average of the all of
the movements off center to obtain the data for my graphs. A) Set down two
liters of sediment water on the table where you are doing your test. Make sure
that when you set it down you do it gently. When you set it down count to three
and then pick it up again, do this about three times. B) Do the same as on the first test,
just that set the water down let it fall down from about I built a seismograph

basketball on the table with out a constant dribble. Make shore that you do not
dribble it hard some times and soft other times. Dribble it with the same
strength if possible. D) Drop three large
hardback dictionary’s 10cm high of the table. The dictionaries should be
stacked on top of one another. When you set it down count to three and then
pick it up again, do this about three times. E) With your hands
move the table as much as possible with out the feet sliding across the floor.
Do this every once in while don’t’ do it constantly give it like three seconds
or so before you do it again do this three times. F) Lift the table 1
inch high and then let it fall. Wait three seconds and do it again. Do this
about three times. ![]() |
