Method
- Using a black marker, six petri dishes were appropriately labelled (control, salt water, Listerine, Fluorinse, Biotene, and Neem mouthwash).
- One hour after eating, the two subjects were asked to rinse their mouth with tap water. The back of the mouth was then swabbed with a sterile Q Tip. (Control)
- The Q-Tip was then swabbed on to the petri dish labelled Control.
- The petri dish was then sealed with Saran Wrap.
- The petri dish was incubated at room temperature for four days.
- At the end of the four days, the Saran Wrap was removed.
- A picture of this petri dish was then taken in order to record and compare the amount of bacteria grown.
- Steps 2-7 were then repeated for the other mouthwashes ( salt water, Listerine, Fluorinse, Biotene, and Neem).
- The amount of bacteria grown was recorded and graphed (see Observations).
