REPRODUCTION

The loggerhead shrike mates in late April to the middle of May. Both males and females gather nest materials and choose the location for the nest. The nest is usually made by the female. It is usually 15 to 20 cm wide and is built to keep eggs and chicks warm in cold weather. The nests are often 1 to 2.5 metres above the ground and sometimes built in hawthorn trees. The female loggerhead shrike lays from five to eight grayish tan eggs. Each egg has dark markings near the big end.
