PROTECTION
Shrikes have predators. Some of their predators are humans, black billed magpies, common crows, bull snakes, feral cats and prairie weasels. First, humans kill the shrikes because they eat other songbirds. Another way humans hurt them is by plowing down their homes. Other animals eat shrikes for food.
Shrikes protect themselves in different ways. First, they migrate in the winter. They fly to southern Texas and Mexico. Second, to defend their nest both the female and male will swoop down and attack invaders This is how they protect their eggs and young chicks. Their hooked bills, quick swooping attacks, and bowing movements scare off many enemies.
