Everyday we dispose of a large amount of garbage, a large portion of which can be recycled, including white out cases, clothing, and computer cases. We forget about this waste, but it remembers us: it is slowly engorging valuable habitats, contaminating our environment, and harming our health. Can there be a material that has properties that satisfy our demand for non-biodegradable plastics and reduce the amount of wastes we dump out? Our project seeks to find out whether fibre-reinforced cellulose acetate composites, which can be made completely out of waste materials, have an equivalent if not better tensile and flexural properties than cellulose acetate plastic with no additives, and potentially replace current materials harmful to our environment.
