Neurons
![]()
A neuron is a cell specialized to conduct electrochemical
impulses called nerve impulses. All neurons outside the central nervous system
conduct impulses along the axons of the neurons.
The axons connecting your spinal cord with your foot could be as much as 1-meter long. Axons grow out of the cell body. The length of some axons is so greatly remarkable that the cell body controls them to their tip. There is a steady transportation of cells from the cell body to the length of the axon. It may take 2 weeks or longer for material in the cell body to reach the axon terminals in your big toe.
