All the valves have different medications for the different challenges they posses. The patients need to take medication to prevent blood clots from developing on the valve. This means the patient has to take anticoagulation medicine daily such as warfarin for the rest of their lives (St. Jude Medical, Inc., 2007; Aortic valve replacement, 2007). The dosage of mediation varies per person so the patients are closely monitored to make sure they are on the correct dosage. The patients will have regular blood tests to detect any problems.
