Hypothesis:

The steam produced in- situ in the well is more effective for separation of oil sands than passing super heated steam from outside.

In the current process the super heated steam is produced outside, in a separate plant to warm up the oil so that it separates from the sand. The process being complex, costly, and time consuming, I believe that if I were to produce steam in situ, shall be more effective for the separation of oil from oil sands, because the steam will not be lost, in the process of it traveling from the point where it is being made.
