A Look at Global Warming
Temperatures on Earth having always been rising and now is no exception. From 1860 to 1900, the average temperature increased by 0.75 °C (1.4 °F), and 2005 was our warmest year yet, next to 1998 (Global Warming, 2007). And interestingly enough, land temperatures are increasing twice as fast as ocean temperatures (Global Warming, 2007).
Global warming is not anything new, as it was first written about in the late 1890s by Svante August Arrhenius (Great Scientific Achievements, 1994) (Global Warming, 2007) (Svante Arrhenius, 2007). Although it wasn’t given the name global warming, it was referred to as climate change (still referred to as climate change today), and with good reason. Arrhenius noted that the average temperature would increase as much as 9 degrees in the coming years (Great Scientific Achievements, 1994) (Svante Arrhenius, 2007). Not only that, but Arrhenius noticed that humans were burning more coal than ever during the industrial revolution, and routed the cause for this climate change back to humans (Great Scientific Achievements, 1994) (Svante Arrhenius, 2007). You could say that Arrhenius was the pioneer in the prevention of global warming, but no one believed Arrhenius, partly because he was blaming humans themselves (Great Scientific Achievements, 1994). Arrhenius was finally proven correct as he got back up many years later G. S. Callendar, and not to mention Charles D. Keeling who discovered there was a 5% increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide (Great Scientific Achievements, 1994). The real pioneer of all this had to be Joseph Fourier, who discovered greenhouse gases in 1824 (Global Warming, 2007).

Global Warming has been around for a number of years, and it doesn’t look like it is going away anytime soon.
