Project Info

A hurricane is a tropical storm that is usually between 500-800km wide. It has winds between 34 and 64 knots. These storms occur in the low-latitude northwest pacific, 17% of these storms occur in the northeastern pacific. 12% occur in the north Atlantic, 12% occur in Australia and it’s surrounding areas. 10% happen in the north Indian Ocean. 7% happen in the south Indian and pacific oceans. The sea has to be at least 27 degrees Celsius at a depth of 60m for a hurricane to form. A layer of air 3-6km up must be humid so that the growing clouds of the storm aren’t destroyed by dry air. The center of the hurricane is called the “eye” it is 20-30km wide. The clouds on the outside of the eye are called the “eyewall cloud”.
