EXPERIMENT

You're probably thinking that (if you've already read my info page.), if you have the proper technique and form, you will get a 100 mph slap shot just like Al McInnis, Sami Salo (Vancouver pride) or Dion Phaneuf (yeah I know, Phaneuf only shoots about 90mph but whatever... he's awesome).

Well I hate to break it to you but, the position of your hands matters too.  Yes, that's another one of those little things that leads up to a 100mph shot.  That's why I included that too into my website.

My experiment was basic.  First I put tape 10cm apart down the length of my shaft... see photo on right.

Then I went to a local bullpen (baseball training area) and shot 20 shots at each position (7 in total).  With their radar gun I clocked each of my shots.

HYPOTHESIS

I think that being it my usual spot, I'm going to go with position 3 as my guess to have the best results.  Also I think the flex of the stick will be stronger the closer towards the middle your bottom hand is.  More flex equals faster shot.
