Scurvy

Scurvy is a sickness that is caused from not in taking enough vitamin c. When you have scurvy you are tired, you get pains in your muscles, spots on your legs or your arms and bleeding gums.  If scurvy isn’t stopped immediately after it is found it could result to being very sick and could even kill you.

Scurvy was a very big problem in the 13th century among sailors because they went for trips on the ocean for long periods of time without bringing fruits or vegetables  with Vitamin C.

Alot of sailors died from scurvy or they were very sick, but no body knew what the sickness was or how to stop it.  The sailors back in the 13th century were saved by the first nations, they boiled leaves from an arbor vitae tree that made some sort of tea that helped to stop scurvy. The tea was recently proved that it contains 50 mg of Vitamin C.  But it was a Scottish captain who discovered that by eating fruits with citrus it would decrease the chance of getting scurvy more than tea from the arbor vitae tree.
