Experiment > Procedure
- Wear goggles, mask, rubber gloves and Lab coat
- Label the glass containers from l to 3
- Dilute 45 ml of Muratic Acid with 90 ml of water
- Pour orange peels, saw dust and newspapers into Container No. l, 2 and 3 respectively
- Pour 45 ml of dilute Muratic Acid into each container
- Prepare water bath for 40ºC approximately and insert a thermometer to ensure that the temperature is constant. Refer to Figure 1.2.
- Check the glucose content every l5 minutes and record the glucose level by comparing the colour change with the table provided
- After one hour, add a package of yeast into 10 ml of warm water and pour the yeast solution into each jar and seal each container with a double layered plastic bag. Let the containers stand in the warm water bath at about 30°C for 36 hours. After that, use coolant testing strips to determine amount of ethanol produced.
