My problem

What flower food lets flowers last the longest? No flower food? A homemade recipe for flower food? Or the commercial brand?

My experiment

There are 3 groups of vases with flowers, group 1 has only water and flowers, group 2 has water mixed with the homemade flower food, and group 3 has the commercial brand with water and flowers. I will leave the vases for a week taking observations every day and then find out which group lasted the longest and wither flower food is really necessary.

My hypothesis

I believe that group 3 will last the best and longest because even if group 2 and 3 all have the same basic nutrients cut flowers need, group 3 may have extra things because it is a commercial brand that group 2 does not have.

The procedure

1.     Assemble all materials

2.     Take the labels and label them group 1, group 2 and group 3 then stick them to the appropriate vases

3.     Divide the flowers into 3 groups

4.     Take all flowers for group 1 and pull all leaves that might be below the waterline off

5.     Trim the stems to the right height for the vase

6.     Fill the vase ¾ of the way for group 1 with lukewarm water

7.     Place the flowers in the vase

8.     Select the ingredients for group 2

9.     Mix the ingredients in a container for group 2

10.  Fill group 2 vase with the mixture

11.  Trim the stems and remove the leaves like before

12.  Insert the flowers in the group 2 vase

13.  Rinse out the container used for group 2 and fill it with the water quantity asked for by the package if commercial flower food

14.  Mix the flower food package with the water in the container and dump it into the group 3 vase

15.  Remove the leaves once more and trim the stems to an appropriate length for the vase

16.  Observe all three vases everyday for a week and take down your observations
