The plants were grown and exposed to cold
temperatures for different lengths of time (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes).
Also, two replicates for each of these time intervals was done.
After the cold exposure, RNA was extracted
and a Real-Time PCR was run to see if the levels of expression of the
Wcs120 and Wcor410 genes in Norstar were greater than in Manitou. In
the results for the Wcs120 gene (Figure 1), Norstar expressed a significantly
higher amount with 60 minutes of cold exposure compared to Manitou,
which expressed a lower amount at the the same time interval. The results
for the Wcor410 gene (Figure 2) also showed that Norstar expressed the
gene at a higher amount. This time, though, the Norstar expressed a
higher amount at 30 minute exposure, instead of the 60 minute. In the
Manitou, the gene expressed its highest level at 60 minutes, but was
still lower than the expression level of Norstar at 30 minutes.
