Hi, my name is Rianne Ho. I am in Grade 5.
My topic for Virtual Science Fair is Crystal Growth. I chose this project because I found crystal growth very interesting. I first learned how to grow crystals in Grade 2. It takes simple household ingredients to make all sorts of different crystals. That is why I came to research this project.
| Because I am interested in crystal growth, I wanted to know more about it. Once I decided this would be my project topic, I started to think of a lot of questions. How do crystals actually form? What is the chemistry behind it? How do they form into so many different shapes and sizes? What determines their shapes and sizes? What factors affect their growth rates? | ![]() |

I decided I would do research to find the answers. I also decided I would do an experiment to find out how moisture affects the growth rate. It is because I know crystal growth is related to evaporation and moisture would affect evaporation. Therefore, I wanted to find out if moisture would affect the growth rate and if so, in what way.
