Project Abstract

My science project, "Where to grow Indoor Plants in the Winter," was testing wether its best to grow plants with natural sunlight, or with artificial light during the winter. When I started my experiment, the plants were almost the same size, and I had no idea about my hypothesis at first. A few days later, I made a hypothesis: Sunlight is better for growing indoor plants. I grew both plants for about three weeks. My observations were that at the beginning of the experiment, they both looked the same, and by the end, I saw that the one grown with sunlight was still dark green, but the other one started looking yellow, pale, and not as lively as the other plant. The purpose was to tell people where they should grow their plants during winter time in Canada for best and healthiest results. It helps my mom too! My apparatus was simple plant growing stuff, a chair, something to measure, and somewhere to record my reults. My method was to put one plant on the chair and clip the light to the chair.(And turn the light on!) I put the other plant by a window with lots of sunlight coming through, and I watered them both (my mom helped me a little) every four or five days. I didn't use any regular light bulbs, instead I used special ones designed to grow plants. The soil was the same condition in both plants, so that makes it even. My conclusion was that sunlight is a better source of light for growing indoor plants.
