Summary |
This website is divided into several sections that
each describe the groundbreaking works of a laboratory that is doing
work on microbial fuel cells. An example is the seafloor battery that
takes advantage of the natural seafloor gradient because bacteria reduce
weaker and weaker reducing agents, creating a voltage gradient that
can be tapped into. Each section includes a description of the lab's
activities, some relevant scientific background (to help the reader
visualize the concepts), and some possiible environmental applications.
The purpose of this website is to educate the public on a rapidly growing
and exciting alternative energy movement. |

In one of Discover Magazine's past issues, there
was an article entitled "Microbial Fuel Cells" that really
piqued my interest. It mentioned a few of the people on this site, but
it also talked about enzymatic fuel cells. The interest I developed
in this subject is why I want to continue my studies in microbiology
as it relates to the environment. |
