ABOUT US
Who’s us? We are the researchers of the topic of teenage depression…otherwise
known as Monika Viktorova and Mary Yao. Attending grade 8 in Vernon Barford
Junior High, Edmonton, Alberta, we got the opportunity to test our knowledge in
the Virtual Science Fair. So, when we had to choose a topic, we decided on
something that may affect our peers tremendously. Thus, the topic of depression
was chosen.
And just to separate our project from other ordinary depression assignments, we
decided to study how depression particularly affects teenagers because after all,
we are teens and we know that in teen hood, not everything is sugar and spice and
everything nice.
We are in our early teens and know that there is a lot to look forward to and to be
careful of. We also know that many things may start to change once you hit teen hood
and some not for the better. Teenagers are often falsely accused of being moody,
snappy, wild, disobedient, etc. and because we are teens, we have the advantage to
look at everything from an unbiased point of view and allowing us easier understanding
of other teens and their traumas.
High school is coming up for us and we believe that is when most teenagers become
depressed. By becoming experienced with this mayhem, we may be a help to our friends
and peers who might be going through this phase. All in all, we think doing our
project on teenage depression is a great opportunity to get to learn something
worthwhile and useful.

FAST FACTS About Us-In Our Words
Monika Viktorova-The idea of doing a teen depression project was selected
from a list of possible topics me and my partner Mary had brainstormed. When
we chose the topic, we had several planning stages when we outlined our main
goals, and our project changed from experimental to descriptive. Our original
ideas proved to be uninteresting and were not a worthwhile pursuit, so we adapted
them as needed. The final result is the website you see today.
Mary Yao-Going through teenhood ourselves, we know and feel that it is not a easy task. We both agree that there is a lot of ups and downs and sometimes your life feels unbalanced. Sometimes teens feel that the burden of school, friends or family is too much and thus, plundge into depression. And sometimes when help is not given, there is a tragic end. A few monthes ago, we heard about a death that resulted due to depression. The grief-striken family did not know that their daughter was pushed so deep in depression that she thought the only way out was suicide. That's why it is so important for teens to learn about depression because most people with depression are teenagers. Teenhood is not easy and is not a simple journey either but you got to keep your head up and live life to the fullest
