Introduction

For years, the Smarties company (Nestle) has been advertising their product with a little jingle: "When you eat your Smarties, do you eat the red ones last? Do you suck them very slowly, or crunch them very fast? Eat that candy coated chocolate, but tell me when I ask, when you eat your Smarties do you eat the red ones last?" http://www.classaxe.com/smarties/song.html

The goal of my project is to answer thoses three questions as well as observe how people eat their Smarties, whether they're in a box or in a bowl sitting on a counter. I want to do this project becase I'm interested in knowing if people are really influenced by the commercials and advertisements of Smarties. I know that I eat the red Smarties last, and that I suck them very slowly, but I want to find out if other people do to.

My hypothesis is that only a few poeple eat their red Smarties last, and that most people don't care what color of Smarties it is that they eat last. I also think that more people crunch their Smarties instead of sucking them. I predict this hypothesis because I believe that the Smarties company (Nestle) uses the question "Do you eat the red ones last?" as well as the well-known "Smarties song" to advertise their product. It has worked because a lot of people know eat the red ones last when they buy a box of Smarties. However, most everyone thinks that it is just a waste of time to pick the red Smarties out of their box just so they can eat them last. By doing this experiment, I'm going to try and find out how many people choose to eat them. Also whether they are sucked into the advertisements, or just love the great taste of Smarties.
