The goal of this project was to answer the three questions asked in the Smarties song ("Do you suck them very slowly?" "Do you crunch them very fast?" and, "Do you eat the red ones last?"), as well as observe how people eat their Smarties, whether they're sitting in a bowl, or in a box. I was also interested in seeing if people are affeted by the advertisements and commercials of Smarties. My hypothesis was that only some people eat their red Smarties last and that they don't care what color of Smarties it is that they eat last. I also believe that more people crunch their Smarties instead of sucking them or eating them all at once. I predicted this hypothesis because I know that the Smarties company (Nestle) uses the question "Do you eat the red ones last?" as well as the "Smarties song" to advertise their product, and I wanted to see if it was really working.
The results in this experiment were very close, and supported my hypothesis. They proved that there are more people who don't eat their red Smarties last than people who do. The results also showed that more people crunch their Smarties rather than sucking them or eating them all at once. The source of error in this experiment were the people that I was testing because most of them knew to eat the red ones last but never bothered to do so.
A follow up of this project would be to use an entire box of Smarties for testing instead of just a few in a container, and to test a lot more people so that my results could be more accurate.
