Introduction
I am going to study the effects of certain nail products that promote nail growth. I am going to compare two types of completely different nail polishes, and than I will compare those results to natural nails. One kind of nail polish that I am using contains marine actives. Those minerals are infused with natural plant and vitamin extracts. The other is a formula of calcium and protein. Both products claim that they will absorb in the nails to make them grow dramatically in less than a week.
My goal is to know in what conditions and with what treatment nails grow the most. Do nails without chemically designed products grow longer and faster in a shorter amount of time compared to the opposite? All of that I will discover with my collection of results. I will test each way many times, and create an experiment to discover the answer. I hope that I find a cure for this catastrophe, and that scientists will look at this problem.
Maybe you are asking youselves why I chose to do this project. This idea came to my mind because a big number of females have difficulties when trying to enhance the growth of their nails. So, I am asking, what product is the one to use and have fantastic nails? How many milileters does a natural nail grow in a week? What are nails made of? Why do we even have them? What should a healthy nail resemble? I am also curious about how these mixtures that form these types of nail polishes work. For example, are there any important ingredients that the final chemical must have?
With plenty of research on the internet, I remarked that nails grow approximately 0.05 mm to 1.2 mm each week. I also found out that nails are formed of keratin. Keratin is a type of of protein that you also have in your skin and hair. Inside each nail, cellular division is constantly in process. Nails are at your fingertips for protection. They protect the end of the bone in all your fingers. A healthy nail should be the color pink, that would mean that there is a good circulation of blood happening inside. All nail polishes that we use to make our nails longer and give them more strength are probably made up of different formulas. Each company has their own opinions of products, and each one has their proper theory or theories.
One of the biggest, most succesful, and most commonly known companies that help this topic is Sally Hansen. This company is very confident about their products. Here is something that they said:
"Keeping your nails polished will help protect them while making them look more put together. For even greater protection, apply Sally Hansen Maximum Growth (a substance containing calcium and protein). It reinforces nails and gives them additional strength and support." (Sally Hansen®, 2004, http://www.sallyhansen.com)
I suppose that the nail polish made from the calcium and protein formula will help the most, because nails are made of a type of protein. I think that once it absorbs into your nails, it will be full of additional and excessive nutrients. In my opinon, I think that nails will grow the longest, in the least amount of time with this product, or something with the same or similar main ingredients.
