HOME BACKGROUND
For this year’s science fair project, we decided to experiment with finding out what is in your drinking water. There are a lot of different types of water and we wanted to find out which ones had certain characteristics and how much of each substance was in them. To do this, we collected eight samples of different water. Also we got two testing kits to test the water with. We then tested each kind of water for the different characteristics such as pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphates, coli form bacteria, iron and hardness. We had a variety of different results and no one source of water proved itself to be the best. So from that we concluded that Rouleau had the worst pH level, Kayla’s Farm, Avonlea, and the Cabin Spring had the worst dissolved oxygen levels, and the Kayla’s Farm water had the worst level of nitrate. All of our samples tested negative for bacteria. We have also concluded that Avonlea and Dasani water had the most phosphates, which is not good, Ashley’s farm had the worst iron levels, and Allan and Joanne Kirkpatrick’s farm had the highest hardness level. All of our samples tested negative for bacteria.
