PROJECT DESCRIPTION

What causes the big breaks and cracks in our Earth? What do faults have to do with fractures? Can we reproduce what happens to the Earth with cheese? We are science lovers so we will try!

Software Tools:

Microsoft FrontPage     Macromedia Fireworks

Digital Camera

Source Idea for Our Project:

One day while practicing our spelling words on the side walk with sidewalk chalk we noticed many cracks. We wondered what caused these cracks and if we could reproduce what had happened to the sidewalk in an experiment. The cracks started a discussion about earthquakes and the earth. Through lots of reading and looking up facts we discovered that tension fractures often appear as cracks on the surface of a sidewalk or road. If you look at these cracks, you'll find patterns of cracks like the ones we made with the cheese! We did it!
