Cheating has always been an issue in schools worldwide. Everyone has cheated once in their lfe time; whether by copyinying exam answers, copying homework, turning in a plagiarized paper or one written by another student. Cheating is never acceptable howerver, it becomes a problem when it constantly occurs.A 1998 national survey found that four out of five top students admitted to cheating at some point. In another survey nine out of ten high school teachers acknowledged cheating is a problem in their school. Statistics show that academic cheating amoung students has risen dramactically during the past 50 years. Cheating has been accepted by students of all ages but does it occur more as a student gets older? Is cheating more acceptable if the student is older?
My science project is a study on the number of times a student cheats and if cheating becomes more often as a student gets older. I will be giving an anonymous survey to five classes of middle school studnets ranging from grades seven to nine. I want to see how many times an average student cheats and I want to compare the average grade seven's results to the grade nine's results to possibly see and increase or decrease.
I chose this project because I think it will be interesting to find out how many times a regular student cheats and I think it will be interesting comparing the younger student's results to the older student's results.
My goal for this projectis to show the public that cheating does occur and we need to do something to pervent it.
My hyothesis is that older students cheat more then the younger students because their work becomes more challenging as students get older therefore there is more of a need to cheat. In light of this, I think the grade nine students are going to cheat more then the grade seven students. Tne National School Board states," Students start off cheating on small thing like homework but as they get older and the work becomes harder they start cheating on tests and exams1."
