We did two experiments:
Experiment one:
1) We colored on a whiteboard with a black whiteboard marker.
2) We then placed our right hand fingers evenly one by one on the whiteboard in the black marker.
3) After removing our fingers from the whiteboard we placed scotch tape over the fingertip on the whiteboard.
4) After removing the tape from the whiteboard we studied them so that we could identify which type of fingerprint we have.
5) We also studied if any of our fingerprints on our right hand were the same.
Experiment two:
1) We placed ½ cup of our DNA source (onions, split peas broccoli) into a blender, added 1/8 teaspoon of table salt, and 1cup of cold water.
2) Blended on high for 15 seconds.
3) After this mixture was blended, we poured the DNA mixture through a strainer into another container, we used a margarine container.
4) Added 2 tablespoons of Dish soap, swirled to mix, and stood for about 8 minutes.
5) Poured mixture equally into 3 glasses, about 1/3 full.
6) Added one squirt of contact solution to each glass.
7) Stirred this mixture.
8) Tilted glasses one at a time, and slowly poured in alcohol, so that the glasses were all half-full. This produced a layer of alcohol on top of the mixture.
9) Let sit for about 5 minutes.
