Broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy kale -- known in the veggie world cruciferous
-- do seem to fight cancer. A new study finds that those vegetables contain
chemicals that block the growth of human prostate cancer cells, and could
aid in cancer prevention. Consumption of cruciferous vegetables has been linked
with prevention of cancers of the breast, endometrium, colon, and prostate.
A major active compound found in these veggies -- called indole-3-carbinol
or 13C -- has shown promising cancer-prevention properties

Helicobacter pylori (aka H Pylori) is a leading cause of gastritis and stomach
ulcers. Unfortunately, studies have shown a high positive correlation between
repeated bouts of H Pylori with stomach cancer. And H Pylori has proven to
be a very stubborn strain of bacteria as some of us may know after taking
multiple dosages of antibiotics over time for a recurring infection. The phytochemicals
found in Broccoli, according to these studies has been shown to inhibit growth
of even antibiotic resistant strains in human and Phytochemicals are (non-nutrient
compounds) found in plants that have biological activity in the human body.
After all, plants have been around a lot longer than we have, so these compounds
have played a role in their survival and they play a role in ours too.Cruciferous
vegetables are loaded with other Phytochemicals, the most well known are Indoles
and Sulforaphane. They also contain two other types of phyto's, all shown
to have either protective qualities against cancer, or enzyme producing qualities
that destroy cancer cells. Sulforaphane is the primary phytochemical that
has been found to kill H Pylori.

Cruciferous vegetables are a group of vegetables that research has proven
may provide protection against certain cancers including breast, colon, and
bladder cancers. Cruciferous vegetables contain antioxidants (beta carotene
and the compound sulf`oraphane). These vegetables are all high in fiber, vitamins
and minerals and are part of a healthy eating regimen. The anti-cancer properties
of cruciferous vegetables come from phytochemicals called isothiocyanates,
which stimulate our bodies to break down potential carcinogens. Sulforaphane,
found in broccoli and in even more concentrated form in broccoli sprouts,
is a well-known isothiocyanate. It stimulates the body to produce enzymes
that detoxify
carcinogens. Among men and women aged 50 to 74 in a study from Harbor UCLA
Medical Center in Torrance, Calif., participants who ate the most broccoli
(average: 3.7 half-cup cooked servings weekly) were only half as likely to
develop colorectal cancer as subjects who said they never ate broccoli.

The thing that makes cruciferous vegetables unique is that they are made
up of photochemicals, the natural substances that may help reduce the risk
of cancer. Several of them, called dithiolthiones and isothiocyanates, otherwise
damage our body cells and begin the process of cancer development. Cruciferous
vegetables also contain
phytochemicals called indoles, which appear to affect the estrogen metabolism
in ways that may help prevent breast cancer, prostate cancer and gastric cancer.

Scientists have found strong evidence that this family of vegetables may actually
be a powerful preventive to cancer. Consumption of cruciferous vegetables
has also been linked to lowering the risks of both stomach and colon cancers.
It is recommended that you eat dark green, leafy at least three times a week
and cruciferous vegetables often.

In one study, scientists at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore exposed 145 laboratory animals to high doses of an extremely powerful cancer- causing agent. Of those, 120 were giben high levels of protective sulforaphane. Fifty days later, 68 percent of the unprotected animals had breast tumors, compared with only 26 percent of those that received the sulforaphane.

Overall, my conclusion is that cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower
and bok choy can all prevent and heal cancer. They are all made up of a very
strong chemical that can fight against cancer. Cruciferous vegetables are
very important to everybody the human body all around the world. Eating these
vegetables could save our life… so have we eaten these vegetables today?
