What are cruciferous vegetables?

Broccoli, cauliflower and bok choy, are known in the veggie world as Cruciferous vegetables. These vegetables fight cancer. These vegetables contain chemicals that block the growth of human prostate cancer cells, and can aid all cancers. Consumption of cruciferous vegetables has been linked with prevention of cancers of the breast, colon, and prostate. A major active compound found in these veggies is called indole-3-carbinol or 13C which has shown cancer-preventing properties. The compound is converted in the body to something called DIM, which in this case acts as a powerful male hormone blocker and stops the prostate cancer cells from growing and dividing. Studies show that these chemicals are, naturally occurring and could have potential in cancer prevention or treatment. People who eat cruciferous vegetables are protected from all kinds of cancers these foods are probably most useful for fighting cancers of the colon, breast, prostate and gastric.
