Cones give off the electrical signs, which are then recieved by nerves.  They compare the intensity of the colours, an depending on the intensity, they send them to the brain, which then turns tem into colours.  For example, the most intense colour is red.

 

  The part of the brain that is for vision is divided into two parts.  The first compares the contrast of colors and the second compares the brightness.  We see colors by opposite pairs.  Red and green are pairs and so are yellow and blue.  for example if you look at something red for 30 seconds and then quickly look at something white, you'll probably see red's opposite, green.
