Ever wonder why we blink?

Humans blink about every 5 seconds, each blink during about a third of a second. Also, we blink if an object approaches quickly, or if it is close.

The main purpose of blinking is to lubricate and clean the cornea and the conjunctiva, two membranes of the eye.  The liquid that is used is called the lachrymal liquid, which is being made.  There are three steps to blinking.

1. Comes out of the lachrymal glands and into the eye.

2. Goes into the nasal canal.

3. We swallow it.
