The purpose of this project was to determine which type of soap killed bacteria more effectively. I was curious to find out which type of soap kills the most bacteria. My hypothesis was that antibacterial soap would kill the majority of bacteria than regular soap because of the special ingredient Triclosan.
This experiment involved specific materials for testing. I used plates, soaps. swabs,a watch and a dog. I sectioned the plates into six parts. I arranged the soaps in a specific order. I began by rubbing the dog for 10 seconds, then swabbed my hands, then plated it without washing my hands. I did the same for the next step, except I washed with soap and then plated. I did this process several times using different soaps.
When I calculated the results I was surprised that there were no colonies showing for antibacterial soap and regular soap after 24 hours and 48 hours, after washing with the soaps. This rejected my hypothesis, showing that there is no difference between antibacterial soap and regular soap in removing bacteria.
In conclusion, I found that antibacterial soap is no different than regular soap. Antibacterial soap is a marketing ploy so people will buy their product.
