Introduction

Brakes are an essential system of a car.  Every time we press the brake pedal the car slows down or stops.  But how does this work?  How does that small pressure on the pedal stop something so heavy?  What types of brakes are there? How does an antilock brake work and what is all that noise about?  These questions and more will be answered in this web site. The reason I picked brakes as my topic is I was driving to school on a day when the road was covered with ice, but the car had antilock so we didn't have a problem. I became interested in the topic and wanted to find out more.
