Abstract:
Our experiment was testing pulse rates of boys and girls in different situations. We found that when testing pulse rates of boys and girls, the boys were very similar and the girls were also very similar. First of all, we tested what all the people’s pulse rates were before they did the experiments. Our first experiment we did was we put them in a quiet room at a computer. We then had them type a paragraph in thirty seconds. We yelled at them so they would be more nervous and jumpy. After they were done typing we tested their pulses again. The girls pulse rates increased four pulses more than the boys did for typing. The next experiment was to make them exercise. We had each person run four laps around Avonlea School Gymnasium. After they ran their four laps we tested their pulses again. It went up amazingly high. The girl’s pulses were again higher than the boys by one hundred twenty six pulses in all. Overall girl’s pulses are higher than boys when they are put in different situations. What causes this, we aren’t very sure.
Background Research:
We first thought of an idea of making a potato battery. However, we weren’t able to make it because other people chose it also. We decided we should then go on the internet and look for problems we could use. While searching we found one that was about heart rates and we thought we should change it a bit. Instead we decided to do pulse rates for boys and girls. We liked this idea because we wanted to see if boys or girls get more nervous when under pressure or when they are counted on. It all ended out going against the girls with them being more nervous in the situations we chose.
