The word sehorse means 'bent horse'. Seahorses are related to pipefish, and there are around 32 to 35 species of seahorses, and three categories; temperate, sub-tropical and tropical. The smallest is the 'hippocampus denise' or the pygmy seahorse, which mesures 16 mm long, and was discovered in the Flores sea (the other side of Indonesia). The biggest seahorse is the 'big bellied' seahorse and mesures 25 cm. Seahorses live for an average of 3 to 5 years, but the 'pot bellied' seahorse can live up to nine years. Their biggest threats are: being kept as pets, being captrued, dried,  and sold as gifts, being used for Chinese medication, being sold as jewelery, the destruction of their habitat, and their natural predators. They include, crabs, tuna, and rays.

A lot of seahorses are threatened, one species is indangered, and 20 are vulnerable. But luckily in 2004, the exchange of seahorses is controled by CITES (Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species). The have rules to buy and sell seahorses.
