‘Seahorse’ in
Greek is ‘hippocampus’ which means bent horse. Because seahorses
aren’t very strong, they put their tails around plants, in order not to
move. The male can have 200 eggs in his marsupium, and what I find
surprising is that the babies that are pumped from the marsupium are
completely developed, straight away. Seahorses are found in tropical
waters, and make their houses in seaweed and sea grass. What surprises me
the most is that seahorses can tolerate a lot of salinity, when they are
salt-water fish.
