- 1. Take the volcano substructure and turn it sideways. Insert the 2 ft long tube through the centre hole. Leave about 13 millimeters of the tube sticking out of the volcano’s mouth. Fasten the rest of the tube into the notched track on the rim.
- 2. Next lay some newspaper on an open table. To make the volcano-making compound, you take the large clean disposable bucket and place it on the newspaper.
- 3. Cut one corner off the bag of sand mix and pour it into the bucket. Then add 9 ounces of warm water. After adding the water, mix the sand and water for about 5 minutes or until all of the sand is mixed well with the water.
- 4. After 5 minutes scoop out the compound with your hands and mold it onto the substructure (Make sure not to cover the mouth of the substructure).
- 5. After a while the compound will get harder, and it will be easier to mold. Then put the substructure outside and let it dry for 20 minutes.
- 6. When your volcano is done drying, you may want to paint it. Use non-water-based paint. When you are finished painting let the substructure dry for about 10 minutes. If you want, you can decorate your volcano.
Eg. Toy palm trees and plastic figurines.
- 7. Take the 14 inch diameter box and place three layers of newspaper in it. Next take the substructure and place it in the middle of the box.
- 8. Put on your safety goggles and cut off the tip of the eruption bottle. Fill the bottle with 3 ounces of vinegar, 2 drops of liquid soap, and 3 drops of food colouring.
- 9. Next add one tablespoon of baking soda in the centre mouth of the volcano. Don’t let any fall in the tube.
- 10. Last, fasten the free end of the tube onto the tip of the bottle firmly. Squeeze the bottle It allows the vinegar to go up the tube and into the mouth of the substructure, combining with the baking soda to make a magma eruption.
