ABSTRACT

My objective was to find out if the heart rate increased or decreased with higher and lower pitches of sound. I thought the idea was interesting because I wanted to know how the music I listen to affects my heart rate. For my project, I needed a heart rate monitor, a c.d., and a c.d. player. First, I put high pitch and low pitch sounds onto my c.d. Next, attached a heart rate to the person I was testing, and then I played the music while recording their heart rate. Finally, I repeated this procedure 15 times.

My results showed that 11 out of 15 people's heart rates react to sound by increasing with higher pitches of sound. Three people's heart rates react to sound by increasing with higher pitches of sound. 3 people's heart rates didn't change at all and 1 person's heart rate decreased with higher pitches of sound.

In conclusion, I discovered that the majority of people's heart rates listen by increasing with higher sounds.
