Source of Idea : Both of my parents smoke and the smoking ban is a big deal is Saskatchewan right now so I thought it would be a good topic to pick.

Summary : Secondhand smoke has effects on all age groups. It effects unborn babies when the nicotine gets in the mother's blood and slows down the growth of the lungs and breathing air ways. For children, secondhand smoke is harmful to them by giving them bronchitis, ear infections and asthma attacks. In the future children get things like lung cancer and heart disease. Teens effected by secondhand smoke score lower on certain kinds of tests. Scientists are not sure why yet, but they have a few reasons. Short team effects of secondhand smoke on all ages include things like headaches, sneezing, sore throat, nausea and dizziness. Long term effects include lung cancer, heart disease and stroke, breathing difficulties and reduced ability to take in oxygen. Secondhand smoke kills many people around Canada each year. Around 1 100 people die from an illness related to secondhand smoke each year. That is not much compared to the 47 500 that die each year related to just tobacco illness. You can prevent yourself from the dangerous effects of secondhand smoke in many ways. You can quit smoking yourself, or help your friends and family to quit. Don't go into places where people often gather to smoke. When your friends or family visit ask them not to smoke around you or your children. Don't smoke in your vehicles and don't let anyone else. Also, you can support the new smoking ban in Saskatchewan and make it a smoke – free province.
