About two-thirds of the smoke from the cigarette is not inhaled by the smoker but goes into the air around the smoker.


Being around secondhand smoke a lot increases the chances of getting lung disease by 25% and heart disease by 10%.



Cigarettes burn for about 12 minutes, but smokers only inhale for about 30 seconds. So for 11 minutes and 30 seconds smoke is going straight into the air.


Smoking in teens has gone down in the past years. In 1999 28% of teens age 15-19 smoked, now in 2003 only 18% of them smoke.


Smoking is the biggest preventable cause of death in Canada. It causes more deaths than AIDS, alcohol and traffic accidents put together.


A smoking company will not encourage a smoking program for young people that discourages them from smoking.


Cigarette companies can take nicotine out of smokes like pop companies can take caffeine out of pop.


A big tobacco company made $1 066 000 000 in the year 2003.


Urea is found in urine and in some countries they put it in cigarettes to make it taste better.


Aminonaphthalene is in cigarettes and it’s used to kill weeds.


Formaldehyde is used to keep dead bodies from rotting too quickly and it’s used in cigarettes.


Argolein is a chemical used in tear gas, plus cigarettes.


Toluene is also found in cigarettes. It causes memory loss, dizziness, colour vision loss, headaches and hearing loss. It is also a central nervous system depressant and brings down intelligence.


Methyl Ethyl Ketone is in cigarettes and varnishes.
