Conclusions

The data gathered supported the hypothesis for relaxation (decreased heart rate) and bollywood music (increased heart rate). For classical, jazz, and rock & roll, the result was inconclusive in that only half the subjects showed the heart rate changes expected. For popular and Disney music the effect upon the heart rate was actually the reverse of what was expected. In order to get more conclusive results, a bigger group of volunteer subjects (approximately 100) would be useful. More research needs to be done on the mechanism and effect of music on the heart rate.
