Botox injections are first injected into the target muscles, or the muscles containing the wrinkles. The botox travels to the synapses through blood, and then binds with acetylcholine neurotransmitters so that they cannot bind to the receptors on the receiving neuron of the synapse, thus inhibiting the muscle contraction process.
The injections take effect about 3 to 7 days after the shot, and lasts for approximately 3 to 4 months. During the injection process, minimal discomfort is felt and the pain is usually compared to the prick of a pin. No anethsetic is needed and activity can be resumed immediately.
