As previously mentioned, in this experiment we blocked the passage of calcium ions into the cell; the result may be witnessed in the following trace.
We noticed that the cell was firing action potentials at a normal rate. When we intervened and blocked the flow of calcium; we noticed that no action potential occurred. When we allowed the flow of calcium to once again continue into the cell; the action potential was noticed once again.
This trace; illustrates our findings; the trace on the bottom is the original cell firing; where as the top is the responding cell. It may be noticed that the first three action potentials responded normally; yet upon the fourth spike the calcium was blocked. It may be noticed that no action potential occurred.
