The Effect Red Light Has on Protein Synthesis and Growth of Human Fibroblast Cells

Applications

We have all received cuts on our bodies in our daily lives and our bandage will help heal wounds faster thus reduce the chance of infection. If benign luminescent bacteria could be made to emit red light then we could also speed up the rate of healing in larger wounds and it also could possibly be used in surgeries to speed up healing and also reduce the chance of infection. If it is proven through further research that red light has a significant effect on the healing and growth rate of the cells, red light therapy could be used as a partial or complete replacement growth hormone treatment. Growth hormone is commonly used by females with Turner Syndrome. The research that could be done in the future and the research that was done to support this project could also be used to learn more about the cell and how it functions. Knowing how a cell functions can give a window into important biological processes that have not yet been understood, such as the process of aging and cancer.
