What is Overpopulation and Overconsumption?
In order to find out if an area is overpopulated you have to know how many resources there are, how much space there is, and the amount of people that live there. This is known as carrying capacity. It is hard to calculate the carrying capacity of the Earth for humans because we have different standards of living.
Overconsumption If the standard of living of all humans were the same as an average American, we would need three planet Earths to meet everyone's needs. The earth’s carrying capacity for humans is estimated at between 7.7 billion and 12 billion. The UN predicts we will reach that by 2150.
