Humankind has fought with viruses for the longest time. Worldwide, viruses have caused many crises that has killed billions of people. According to the World Health Organization, less than one third of all deaths globally each year are due to dangerous viruses.
More and more viruses are being added to list of deadly viruses each year, and more people are in danger of being targeted by these diseases. It’s scary how such small particles can cause so much health problems we have today. An even scarier thought would be what would happen without the help of brilliant scientists and advances in technology? Where would we stand in the war with viruses if it weren’t them?
Thankfully, we have been successful in eradicating certain deadly viruses that have threatened human existence. Better technological and medical advances, and understanding of viruses will hopefully lead us into discovering a possible cure for other viruses such as HIV.
These particles of destruction aren’t all that bad. Ironically, these viruses are being used today to cure diseases. This process is known as virotherapy. Using the property of viruses, we can use it to fight cancer, help destroy and replace bad cells, and make the body healthier.
One cannot deny that viruses and viral immunity is one of the most important health issues of this century.
